Pegasus Airlines baggage: cabin bags, checked luggage and restrictions

Pegasus Airlines baggage rules can be confusing if you look only at the size of the bag. The allowance depends not only on the route but also on the package selected when booking. On an international Light fare, for example, passengers may take a small underseat bag, but a standard cabin suitcase for the overhead locker is not included.

Different rules apply to domestic flights within Turkey. One cabin bag is included in the main domestic packages, while the checked baggage allowance depends on the fare.

The final allowance is always shown on the ticket and in the Manage My Booking section. Check it before leaving home: paying for additional baggage at the boarding gate is usually more expensive than purchasing it in advance.

International and Northern Cyprus flights

Pegasus Airlines uses the Light, Saver, Saver Plus and Comfort Flex packages on international and Northern Cyprus routes.

The Light package includes exactly one small item: a handbag, laptop case or compact backpack. It must fit easily under the seat and comply with both limits — 40 × 30 × 15 cm and 3 kg.

A normal city backpack measuring 45–50 cm in height may therefore be too large even when it is almost empty. External pockets, handles and wheels are included when the bag is measured.

Passengers with Saver, Saver Plus or Comfort Flex may bring two items into the cabin: a small underseat bag and one cabin bag weighing up to 8 kg for the overhead locker. These packages also include 20 kg of checked baggage.

A cabin bag can be added separately to the Light package if space is still available on the flight. Checked baggage can also be purchased, with options starting from 12 kg. It is usually best to do this while booking or later through Manage My Booking.

What happens to an extra bag at the gate

The number and size of bags may be checked before boarding. A second backpack, an oversized suitcase or a bag that does not fit the baggage gauge will be treated as additional baggage.

A fee is charged for each extra or oversized item. The price is not fixed and may depend on the route, date, demand, country of purchase and the time at which the service is added. The amount displayed before payment on the Pegasus website or app is the final price for that purchase.

Baggage on domestic flights within Turkey

On domestic routes, one cabin bag measuring up to 55 × 40 × 23 cm and weighing no more than 8 kg is included in every main package.

An additional personal underseat bag is not automatically allowed on domestic flights. The rule provides for one item in the cabin. A passenger carrying a suitcase, backpack and separate laptop bag may need to combine the items or pay for additional baggage.

Package names may differ between language versions of the booking system. Look at the baggage symbols and allowances beside the selected fare rather than relying only on its name.

Pegasus Airlines checked baggage

Checked baggage is handed over at the check-in or Bag Drop counter and carried in the aircraft hold. The permitted weight is shown on the ticket.

A single item may not weigh more than 32 kg. Purchasing a higher total allowance does not change this limit. If 40 kg has been purchased, for example, the belongings must be divided between at least two bags when one suitcase would otherwise exceed 32 kg.

Keep documents, money, keys, medicines, phones, laptops and other valuables out of checked baggage. Even a well-packed suitcase may be delayed, while fragile electronics can be damaged during handling.

Attach a label containing a name and telephone number to the bag. A home address is unnecessary; a reliable contact number is sufficient.

Items prohibited in cabin baggage

Security staff consider not only what an item is called but also whether it could be used as a weapon. An apparently harmless object may therefore be retained even when it is not specifically named in the rules.

Do not pack the following in cabin baggage:

• knives and folding knives with blades of any length;
• scissors with pointed ends or long blades;
• removable razor blades and open razors;
• syringes without medical evidence;
• drills, screwdrivers and other tools;
• corkscrews;
• slingshots;
• trekking poles;
• darts;
• baseball and cricket bats;
• billiard, pool and snooker cues;
• toy weapons and realistic replicas of guns or rifles.

Standard disposable razors with blades enclosed in a plastic cartridge are generally allowed. A razor that can be opened and have its blade removed should be placed in checked baggage.

Small scissors may be accepted depending on their design and the airport’s requirements. Models with rounded ends or very short blades may pass inspection, but security staff make the final decision.

Liquids in cabin baggage

Liquids must be carried in containers holding no more than 100 ml each. All containers must fit inside one transparent, resealable bag with a maximum capacity of one litre. Each passenger may carry one such bag.

The capacity printed on the container is what matters. A half-empty 200 ml bottle does not comply with the rule, even if less than 100 ml remains inside.

The restrictions cover:

• water, juice, other drinks, soups and syrups;
• creams, lotions and cosmetic oils;
• perfume;
• sprays and aerosols;
• hair and shower gels;
• shaving foam and deodorants;
• toothpaste;
• mascara;
• products containing both liquid and solid ingredients;
• other products with a similar consistency.

The same rule applies to a standard cabin bag and to the small underseat bag included in the Light package.

Medicines and baby food

Medicines and special food genuinely needed during the journey may be carried in the cabin. The same applies to baby formula, milk and food required for the trip. Exceptions to the 100 ml restriction may be made for these items.

Keep them somewhere easy to reach. Security staff may ask to inspect or open the packaging and request an explanation of why the product is needed. Prescription medicine should remain in its original packaging and be accompanied by a prescription or medical certificate.

Do not place medicine required during the flight or shortly after arrival in checked baggage. If the suitcase is delayed, it may not be returned quickly.

Duty Free purchases

Drinks, perfume and other liquids purchased at Duty Free may be taken into the cabin when sealed inside an approved security bag. Keep the receipt until the journey is complete.

Do not open the bag before all security checks have been completed. This is particularly important on connecting journeys, as liquids in an opened bag may be confiscated at the transit airport.

Items prohibited in all baggage

Some items are forbidden in both the cabin and the aircraft hold because of the danger they pose to the aircraft and its passengers.

These include:

• flammable liquids and solids;
• firelighters, lighter fluid, paint and solvents;
• fireworks and other pyrotechnics;
• unsafe or self-igniting matches;
• tear-gas devices and dangerous gas cartridges;
• organic peroxides;
• poisons, cyanides, arsenic and herbicides;
• infectious and radioactive materials;
• acids, alkalis, sodium hydroxide and bleaching powders;
• wet-cell vehicle batteries;
• devices containing mercury;
• strongly magnetised equipment.

Ask Pegasus about unusual items before travelling. Large batteries, medical devices, sports equipment, musical instruments and professional tools may be subject to separate packing and carriage rules.

Security checks at Turkish airports

At many Turkish airports, the first security check takes place at the entrance to the terminal. A second check is located before the boarding-gate area. International passengers must also pass through passport control.

Take phones, keys, coins and other metal items out of your pockets before reaching the scanner. Laptops and tablets may need to be placed in a separate tray. Remove outer clothing in advance and be prepared to remove your belt if requested.

Children must be taken out of pushchairs, which should then be folded for inspection. Passengers walk through the metal detector one at a time after placing their belongings on the X-ray belt.

Tell security staff before entering the detector if you have a pacemaker or metal implant. Pregnant passengers and people who cannot complete the standard procedure without assistance should do the same. Staff will select a suitable inspection method.

Passengers who refuse a security inspection will not be allowed into the restricted area. Having a ticket does not give the right to proceed to the aircraft without completing the required checks.

What to check before travelling to the airport

Find the package name and baggage allowance on the ticket. Measure the bag including its handles and wheels, and weigh it at home.

If the allowance is insufficient, add baggage through Manage My Booking. Do not assume that a small amount of excess weight or a second backpack will be accepted free of charge.

Place liquids in containers of up to 100 ml, keep medicines in their original packaging and move documents and valuables into cabin baggage. A quick check at home can prevent repacking or unexpected charges at the airport.
